Do I Love This?

I do love the maxi trend. At first I was wary; I have disproportionately short legs and I just figured that maxi anything would never work on me. However, I learned that if you buy something the right length, and with very little volume so you don't get swallowed up in it, short people can wear maxi dresses too! Despite intense searches I really only ended up buying one last summer, which I love a lot, but which I fear may not fit anymore. I'd like to jump on the bandwagon of maxi in winter, but I don't have the funds (or the resilience to the cold!!). So I'm looking ahead to spring/summer shopping, and contemplating this.

I apologize for the poor quality of the picture, apparently getting a picture of this skirt at a reasonable size is just not possible. In any case, it's an ankle length shantung skirt. Shantung, which I had to look up, and in case you don't know, is a fabric with a bit of heft made from silk fibers or synthetic fibers imitating silk. I like the bit of sheen of the skirt and I like the way it falls. I know that it most definitely will not be "ankle length" on me, but I think it would not be so long that I'm dragging it. If you check it out at Newport News you can see that there are a variety of colors; I personally am partial to the bright purple. And of course, I would not wear this skirt all matchy matchy like the website styles it. I shudder to think.

Bottom line, I'm torn. I have a concern that it might be a bit cheap looking in person, but it has been featured several times by Lucky Magazine, and it's currently on sale for $29. So my question to you guys is the one I pose to shopping partners (Mom, Kim) when I just don't know: Do I love this?
